Even by snapshot standards, this isn’t a very good picture. However you can see this truck, which I find quite impressive. The lift is on the truck and the whole process is automated. The guys can just move the pallets from side to side and place then anywhere they want them to go. The whole unloading process, start to finish, was about ten minutes.
Back when I started doing this kind of work, the transporter lost space on the truck because he often had to carry a separate forklift. Even worse, I have seen way too many laborers carrying the stone, piece by piece, long ant-lines of skinny, dirty, exhausted men. This is better.
Looks like a huge amount of stone. Exciting!

Is it a huge amount? It didn’t look to me like enough, though the guys say it is. Anyway, it is exciting. They won’t start laying the floor for a couple of weeks. Then I guess it will take another couple of weeks to get the job done.

Well, fortunately for construction workers in Europe, at least — this truck was a Mercedes — some little boys never grow up. They just become engineers. The way this thing used the weight of the truck and the leverage created by its position was ingenious. Even better, it used a wifi controller, so the delivery guy could be wherever he needed to be to watch the job and not get tangled up in power lines. I loved it.

You’ll have to get them to deliver a few more loads, just for the fun 😀

Yeah, I do, too. One day, one day…
Seriously, even though the stone is sitting right in front of the house, the guys are telling me it will be at least two weeks before they get started on it, then two more weeks of installation. Given their usual delays, I’ll consider myself lucky if they get the finish floor down before we need to start heating the house. Of course when that happens I can start to actually move in. It has been so long now, I’m not sure how I’ll deal with the project suddenly becoming my home.
